DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — The community is invited to welcome home Dothan’s Special Olympics USA Games athletes Saturday following their successful week of competition at the 2026 USA Special Olympics Games.
According to Dothan Leisure Services, three Dothan athletes and one Unified Partner proudly represented Team Alabama at the national competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
“What an incredible week it has been for our athletes at the 2026 USA Special Olympics Games!” Dothan Leisure Services said in a social media post.
Officials said the athletes represented Dothan with determination, heart and sportsmanship, bringing home gold and bronze medals while one athlete also set a new USA Games record.
“They represented Dothan with determination, heart, and sportsmanship, and we couldn’t be more proud of everything they accomplished,” the post stated.
“From bringing home gold and bronze medals to setting a new USA Games record, these athletes gave it their all and inspired us every step of the way. Their hard work, perseverance, and positive attitudes are something our entire community can celebrate.”
Dothan Leisure Services also thanked supporters who helped make the trip possible.
“A special thank you goes to the Mitchell Family and Toyota of Dothan for helping make this unforgettable experience possible. Your generosity gave our athletes the opportunity to shine on the national stage.”
A welcome home celebration will be held Saturday, June 27, from 1l:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Doug Tew Therapeutic Recreation Center, located at 300 Garland Street in Dothan.
Community members are encouraged to bring signs, wear Team Alabama colors and help celebrate the athletes’ accomplishments.
