DOTHAN, Ala. — Freedom Ignited organizers presented $15,000 to four local veterans organizations Friday afternoon following the success of the “Freedom Ignited: Honor in the Sky” benefit event held May 16 at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds.
The check presentation took place at Ill Eagle Fireworks on South Oates Street in Dothan, where representatives from several local veterans organizations gathered to receive donations generated through the community fundraiser.
According to organizers, the $15,000 was divided among four Wiregrass organizations: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans Helping Veterans and Brave.
The donations were made in keeping with the mission of Freedom Ignited.
“True to the event’s mission, 100% of the funds raised will stay entirely local to support heroes right here in the Wiregrass community,” organizers said.
The Freedom Ignited: Honor in the Sky event was held May 16 at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds and was designed to honor veterans while raising money for organizations that provide assistance, advocacy and support services to former military members throughout the Wiregrass.
Friday’s presentation marked the completion of that fundraising effort as organizers distributed the proceeds to the four veteran-focused organizations.
Organizers said keeping the funds in the Wiregrass ensures the donations will directly benefit veterans and their families throughout the region.
