DOTHAN, Ala.— The Dothan City Schools Board of Education has approved Dr. Victoria Washington as the next principal of Morris Slingluff Elementary School.
The appointment was approved during a special called board meeting on June 15. Dr. Washington will officially begin serving as principal on July 1, 2026.
Dr. Washington brings more than 20 years of experience in education, having served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and educational leader. Most recently, she worked as an Educational Specialist with the Alabama State Department of Education’s Office of School Improvement, where she supported schools across the state through professional development, instructional coaching and strategic planning.
Before joining the state department, Dr. Washington served as principal of Tipton-Durant Middle School in Dallas County. During her tenure, she led efforts aimed at improving academic performance, increasing family engagement and expanding opportunities for students.
“Dr. Washington is an experienced leader who believes in the potential of every student,” Superintendent Dr. Garrick Askew said. “Her years of experience, passion for education, and dedication to supporting students, families, and staff make her an excellent addition to Dothan City Schools and Morris Slingluff Elementary.”
Dr. Washington holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from National University and has completed advanced studies in instructional leadership and school administration.
“I am thrilled to begin this new chapter and bring my student centered approach to Morris Slingluff Elementary School,” Dr. Washington said. “I look forward to building strong relationships with our students, families, and staff as we work together to keep teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do. My mission is to support both our students and staff so that every child has the opportunity to succeed.”
School officials said Dr. Washington has focused her career on supporting educators and creating learning environments where students can succeed. She said she looks forward to working with students, families and staff at Morris Slingluff Elementary when she officially assumes the principal position on July 1, 2026.
