DOTHAN, Ala. — A Dothan/Midland City woman was arrested Friday morning after police said she fired a gun into a vehicle during a domestic-related incident at a Montgomery Highway business.
According to Lt. Scott Owens with Dothan Police, officers responded around 8:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired at a business in the 1500 block of Montgomery Highway.
When officers arrived, they found the suspect, identified as Melva Lee Guilford, allegedly firing a handgun into the air and into a nearby vehicle. Police said officers made contact with Guilford, who complied with commands to drop the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident.
Investigators said Guilford was upset over relationship issues involving the victim and arrived at the victim’s workplace armed with a firearm. Authorities said the vehicle struck by gunfire belonged to the victim.
Guilford was arrested and charged with one count of shooting into an unoccupied vehicle and one count of third-degree domestic violence.
The investigation remains ongoing.
