DOTHAN, Ala. — The Black Student Union at Wallace Community College-Dothan will host its 2026 Black History Month celebration later this month, inviting the community to take part in an evening focused on legacy, perseverance and often-overlooked figures in history.
The annual program is set for Friday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. in Cherry Hall on the Wallace Campus in DOTHAN. Admission is free and open to the public.
This year’s theme, “A Seat at the Table,” will highlight hidden figures in Black history while underscoring the importance of family and generational impact. BSU members will present stories of trailblazers whose contributions helped shape history but are not always widely recognized.
The event will also feature a special musical performance by violinist Lori McKay.
“I am very excited about this year’s Black History program. Last year, we had a great show, and this year we are looking to build upon that success,” said Braxton Morris, WCCD student and BSU president. “I believe that we have done a wonderful job looking back at our history and bringing some of our hidden figures to the spotlight, giving them the recognition that they truly deserve. On behalf of BSU and all its members, we are excited and can’t wait to showcase our hidden figures through the lens of our members.”
Linda Thomas, WCCD dual enrollment assistant and BSU Villager sponsor, said the program honors the lasting contributions of Black Americans.
“We are pleased to celebrate the perseverance, achievements, and lasting legacy of Black Americans through this year’s Black History program, honoring their journey toward advancement and recognition,” Thomas said. “BSU students are proud to bring their chosen trailblazers’ stories to life with purpose, authenticity, and pride, inspiring others to create their own seat at the table.”
Organizers said they hope the program brings together students, families and community partners in celebration and reflection.
“The BSU Villagers are honored to collaborate with these remarkable Wallace Community College students. We warmly invite the campus, local community, and partner organizations to join us—and encourage all WCC students to become active members of the Black Student Union Organization, adding their voices to a legacy of leadership and impact.”
