DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — SpectraCare Health Systems is rolling out a new initiative called Operation VetWell, partnering with Troy University to bring trauma-informed mental health care straight to veterans and their families across rural Southeast Ala.
The program centers on a mobile mental health clinic that will travel through Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, and Pike counties. The goal is to reach veterans who struggle with distance, transportation, or access to specialized services.
“This project is about making sure no veteran is left behind,” said Melissa Kirkland, CEO of SpectraCare. “We’re taking services to where they’re needed most — into the heart of our rural communities — so veterans and their families can get help close to home.”
The mobile clinic will offer mental health assessments, substance use screenings, trauma-informed counseling, and early intervention for conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders.
The initiative is strengthened through SpectraCare’s partnership with Troy University, which has long supported active-duty military members and veterans.
