DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) – The Wiregrass 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will return to Rip Hewes Stadium in DOTHAN on Saturday, September 6, honoring the sacrifice of firefighters and first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
The event, presented by Dothan Fire, invites participants of all ages to climb the equivalent of 110 stories, symbolizing the height of the World Trade Center towers. Organizers say the annual climb serves as both a memorial and a reminder of the courage shown by first responders on that day.
The NFFF 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so others could live on September 11. Each participant pays tribute to one firefighter by completing the symbolic 110-story climb, representing the heroic journey to save others. Through community participation, event leaders say the sacrifice of every firefighter will be remembered, ensuring the world never forgets.
“Climb. Honor. Remember.” is the theme for the event, which allows the Wiregrass community to show respect and support for those who continue to serve in fire and emergency services.
Online registration is open until September 4 Here. More information and sign-up details are available by scanning the QR code on the event flyer or visiting the Wiregrass 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Facebook page.
