MARIANNA, Fla. (WDNews) — A juvenile escapee from Dothan was arrested Thursday in Florida after police located a stolen vehicle and pursued him on foot.
Police say 17-year-old Nathan Howard Hicks of Enterprise was taken into custody after officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to the Marianna Probation and Parole Office around 11 a.m. A stolen vehicle from Cottondale had been abandoned in the parking lot, and witnesses gave officers a description of the suspect.
An officer had earlier seen someone matching that description near Clinton Street and Jefferson Street. Hicks was later located at Madison Street Park, where he resisted officers’ attempts to detain him.
According to police, Hicks reached toward his waistband and refused to comply with commands. When officers tried to restrain him, he fled on foot and struck at officers in an attempt to break free. After a brief struggle and pursuit, he was restrained and taken into custody.
Hicks sustained minor injuries while fleeing and was treated at Jackson Hospital before being released back into custody. No officers were injured during the incident.
During questioning, police say Hicks gave a false name and date of birth before being positively identified. Officers later confirmed he was an escapee from a juvenile detention facility in Dothan.
Hicks faces charges in Florida including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, providing false information, and a probation violation/escape hold for Alabama. He is being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Panama City and will later be extradited to Houston County to face escape charges.
