Dothan, Ala. (WDNews) – The 28th Annual Youth Fishing Day reeled in big smiles and bigger fish at Eastgate Park on Saturday, July 19, 2025. More than 270 children between the ages of 5 and 15 joined the event for a morning of friendly competition, family fun, and outdoor excitement.
The first 100 young anglers were greeted with Coca-Cola swag bags, raffle tickets, and sausage biscuits provided by McDonald’s. As kids cast their lines, families enjoyed a variety of attractions including face painting by Lolli K, a themed photo booth, Kona Ice, and coffee from Travelin’ Tom’s.
The fishing competition was fierce, with $745.95 worth of prizes up for grabs. Arionna Beaty claimed first place with an impressive 26 fish. Brayden Martin followed with 22, and Aiden Laster rounded out the top three with 16 fish. Tristan Stewart also earned a special prize for “Most Creative Fishing Outfit,” complete with a handmade fishing hat and fishnet vest.
Organizers extended their thanks to community sponsors and families for making the day a success, and say they’re already looking forward to next year’s event.
