DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) – A major narcotics operation in Dothan led to the seizure of a large quantity of illegal drugs, firearms, and a stolen vehicle during a search warrant execution on Tuesday.
On June 24, the Dothan Police Department Narcotics Division, with support from the Special Response Team, conducted a raid at a home in the 700 block of West Newton Street. The search was part of an ongoing investigation into illegal drug activity in the city.
During the search, officers recovered approximately 17 grams of fentanyl-laced pills, 22 grams of cocaine, 53 grams of methamphetamine and ecstasy, 1 ounce of marijuana, and 1.5 ounces of an unidentified substance. Investigators also seized multiple items tied to drug distribution, three firearms (including one reported stolen), a stolen vehicle, and about $1,000 in cash.
Javon Antonio James, 33, of Dothan, was arrested on several felony charges, including:
- Trafficking in Fentanyl
- Trafficking in Methamphetamine
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree
- Receiving Stolen Property 2nd Degree
More charges may be filed as the investigation continues. All seized substances will be tested by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
“This seizure further demonstrates the Dothan Police Department’s commitment to getting these dangerous drugs off our streets,” said Chief William E. Benny. “Those who are selling, possessing, or distributing these dangerous drugs will be held accountable to the fullest extent allowed by law.”
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
