DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — The City of Dothan is inviting residents, visitors and pickleball enthusiasts from across the region to mark their calendars for the official opening day of the new Dothan Pickleball Complex on Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m.
Located at the Rip Hewes Athletic Complex at 1701 Stadium St., the new facility features 25 covered pickleball courts and is expected to become one of the premier pickleball destinations in the Southeast.
According to Dothan Leisure Services, the project was developed in response to the rapid growth of pickleball both nationally and locally. After more than a year and a half of planning, design, site evaluations and visits to pickleball facilities across the region, construction began on the dedicated complex. The project is expected to be completed by July 11 following a year of construction.
“We are excited to officially open this incredible facility and welcome players from throughout the Wiregrass and beyond,” said Billy Powell, director of Dothan Leisure Services. “This complex not only enhances recreation opportunities for our residents but also positions Dothan as a destination for tournaments and special events that will bring visitors and economic impact to our community.”
Opening day festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, remarks from city leaders and opportunities for the public to experience the new courts.
Additional details about opening day activities are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
