DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) – A new lawsuit against Roblox is raising alarms for parents across the Wiregrass, highlighting potential dangers for children who play the popular online game.
Attorneys say a 13-year-old girl in St. Louis was targeted by a predator on Roblox who posed as another child, sent sexually explicit images, and convinced the girl to do the same. The lawsuit claims the platform’s design makes children easy prey for predators.
“Roblox has been so successful because they have convinced parents, I think in a very misleading way, that Roblox is a safe alternative to more dangerous environments on the internet,” attorney Davis Cooper said. “We think this is a very big problem that’s ruined a lot of lives.”
Roblox, which allows users to create, share, and play millions of interactive games, released a statement saying safety is a top priority. The company said it uses advanced technology, around-the-clock human moderation, and strict safeguards such as banning image sharing and sexual conversations. Roblox also said it partners with law enforcement and child safety organizations worldwide.
Despite those measures, attorneys argue parental controls are not enough. The lawsuit also cites inappropriate content on the platform, pointing to environments with references to figures like Diddy and Jeffrey Epstein.
With Roblox being a popular game for kids and teens in the Wiregrass, experts recommend parents monitor who their children interact with, make use of parental controls, and regularly talk with their kids about online safety.
The lawsuit seeks compensation and stricter accountability from Roblox, as more families nationwide continue to come forward with similar concerns.
