A dog food company is voluntarily recalling all of its fresh meals after receiving reports of eye problems in dogs that may be connected to a recent recipe change.
Years is telling customers to stop feeding the meals to their dogs immediately. The company also advised customers not to give the recalled food to other animals, donate it or sell it.
As of Tuesday, Years said it had received 192 reports of potential eye problems among its approximately 40,000 customers. The reported cases have not been verified.
The company said it began receiving multiple complaints in July involving dogs that suddenly developed dry eye in both eyes.
The condition, known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, or KCS, occurs when a dog does not produce enough tears to keep its eyes properly lubricated.
KCS can cause redness, irritation and significant discomfort. Without treatment, the condition can lead to more serious eye damage and possible vision loss.
“We know to some, this may seem overly cautious — but at Years, we will always put every dog’s health and wellbeing first,” the company said.
Years said the reports may be associated with a recent change to its recipes and is urging customers to stop using the fresh meals as a precaution.
