Millions of Corn Dogs and Sausage-on-a-stick Products Recalled Over Wood Contamination Risk

FDA

WASHINGTON (WDNews) — The Hillshire Brands Company is recalling about 58 million pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products after reports of pieces of wood embedded in the batter, federal officials said Saturday. Five injuries have been reported.

The recalled items were packaged between March 17, 2025, and Sept. 26, 2025, and were sold online and shipped to retail and food-service locations nationwide, including school districts and Department of Defense facilities. Officials said the school distribution was through commercial sales and not part of USDA’s National School Lunch Program.

At least five consumer injuries have been reported. Hillshire’s investigation found wooden sticks entered the production process before battering, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Consumers should check freezers and refrigerators and not eat the recalled items. Products bear establishment numbers “EST-582” or “P-894” on the packaging. Affected labels and a full product list are posted by FSI

FSIS urged consumers, schools, and institutions not to eat the products and to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. When available, retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS recall site.
