(WDNews) — Roblox is rolling out new age-based account options and expanded parental controls aimed at improving safety for younger users.
The update, published April 13, 2026 by Founder and CEO David Baszucki, introduces two new account types: “Roblox Kids” for ages 5 to 8 and “Roblox Select” for ages 9 to 15. The changes are expected to launch in early June and will automatically apply based on a user’s age through Roblox’s age-check system or parent verification.
Under the new system, younger users will have access to games based on content maturity ratings. Roblox Kids accounts will be limited to games labeled “Minimal” or “Mild,” while Roblox Select accounts can access games rated up to “Moderate.”
Communication features will also be adjusted. Chat will be disabled by default for Roblox Kids accounts, while settings for users ages 9 to 15 will remain unchanged unless modified by parents.
Roblox says users will automatically move between account types as they age, with full access granted at age 16.
The company is also adding stricter review measures for games available to users under 16, including developer verification, content evaluation and ongoing monitoring.
Parents will gain additional control tools, including the ability to block or approve specific games and manage chat settings through age 15. The update also allows parents to monitor what games their child is playing and who they are interacting with.
Roblox says the changes are part of a broader effort to create safer, age-appropriate experiences while giving parents more oversight.
