OZARK, Ala. (WDNews) — The Dale County Farm-City Committee is preparing for several events this fall as part of its annual celebration of agriculture and the connection between rural farmers and city communities.
This year’s theme is “America’s 250: Founded by Farmers,” tying the celebration to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Dale County Farm-City Week will be observed Nov. 20-26. The Farm-City program has worked since 1955 to help people better understand the relationship between agriculture and urban communities, including how food is grown and produced.
Ahead of Farm-City Week, the committee will hold a special tour of Fort Rucker on Nov. 12. Organizers said the tour will include an opportunity to see military aviation as part of the America 250 celebration.
A limited number of spots will be available to the public. Those interested will need to preregister so organizers can arrange gate clearance.
The annual Dale County Farm-City Banquet will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Ozark Civic Center. Admission will be a donation of canned food.
The committee is also encouraging Dale County students to participate in its annual Farm-City contests centered around this year’s theme.
The poster contest is open to students in grades K-6. The essay contest is open to students in grades 7-12, while the video contest is open to students in grades 9-12.
All Dale County contest entries must be received at the Extension office by Oct. 30.
The committee is also seeking sponsors for this year’s Farm-City activities. Sponsorship levels range from $100 to $750, with benefits depending on the level selected, including recognition in programs, event materials, social media and on-site displays.
The sponsorship deadline is also Oct. 30. Checks can be made payable to Dale County Farm-City and mailed with the sponsorship form to 202 S. Highway 123, Suite D, Ozark, AL 36360.
