TROY, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the Troy Police Department, officers responded Sunday, Sept. 27, to a domestic-related shooting in the 100 block of Prospect Ridge Road.
Police said officers found the victim a short distance from the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to Troy Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and later released.
According to police, officers determined the suspect was inside the home where the shooting occurred. Police said the suspect refused repeated commands to come outside and barricaded himself inside the garage.
Officers maintained communication with the suspect for an extended period in an effort to reach a safe and peaceful resolution.
According to the department, after more than five hours of negotiations, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the garage.
Police then entered the garage and found the suspect dead from what investigators described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident remains under investigation.
