ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDNews) — Downtown Enterprise has replaced its original waste receptacles with help from an $18,750 grant from Main Street Alabama.
According to the City of Enterprise, the project added 25 new receptacles and increased capacity from 20 gallons to 36 gallons per container.
Main Street Enterprise coordinated the project. Its volunteer Design Committee selected the new receptacles, and City of Enterprise Public Works employees installed them last week. Several additional receptacles are being kept by Public Works for future replacements.
“These new waste receptacles are a meaningful investment in the downtown experience,” said Lily McDaniel, executive director of Main Street Enterprise. “As more people come downtown to shop, dine and enjoy our local businesses, having clean, well-maintained public spaces is essential. Increasing waste capacity and improving the appearance of our streetscape helps create a more welcoming environment for everyone who visits Downtown Enterprise.”
According to the city, the replacement project addresses wear and deterioration caused by years of outdoor exposure and public use. The larger containers are also intended to handle increased foot traffic and changes in downtown’s mix of businesses.
The project follows an earlier downtown improvement effort in December 2024. Five larger litter receptacles were installed at that time using money raised through the Mardi Gras on Main fundraiser.
Main Street Enterprise is also seeking volunteers interested in helping with downtown growth and development. Those interested in serving on a volunteer committee can email [email protected] for more information.
