DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Downtown Dothan is asking residents to help shape the future of the downtown district as the organization begins its first year as a newly designated Main Street Alabama program.
According to Downtown Dothan, the organization is working with Main Street Alabama to develop a strategic plan focused on strengthening downtown. Residents are invited to participate in a public planning session Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wiregrass Museum of Art, 126 Museum Ave.
The session will include community vision discussions and asset mapping. Downtown Dothan said feedback gathered from residents will play an important role in creating a framework for the district.
Public input will then be included in a strategic plan report. Initial findings will be presented Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wiregrass Museum of Art. The presentation will outline Main Street Alabama’s recommendations for Downtown Dothan over the next three to five years.
A more detailed report is expected about six weeks after the presentation. Downtown Dothan plans to put the findings into action through four committees focused on promotion, design, economic vitality and organization.
“Main Street Alabama engages communities through meetings focused on board development, goal setting, and planning, which are essential for economic growth,” Main Street Alabama President and State Coordinator Mary Helmer Wirth said. “These meetings serve as catalysts for strategies that create jobs, spark new investment, attract visitors, and promote sustainable change in commercial districts.”
