BONIFAY, Fla. (WDNews) — A woman faces multiple drug charges after a traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamine and authorities later found additional drugs after she arrived at the Holmes County Jail.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped a truck traveling on Highway 79 on Sept. 12.
During the traffic stop, an HCSO K-9 conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics. Deputies then conducted a probable-cause search of the truck.
According to HCSO, deputies found a backpack containing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Investigators said passenger Jordan Carpenter told deputies the backpack belonged to her and claimed the items inside.
Carpenter was arrested and taken to the Holmes County Jail.
Authorities said jail personnel later contacted deputies after additional methamphetamine was allegedly discovered following Carpenter’s arrival at the jail.
Deputies interviewed Carpenter and other witnesses as part of the investigation. According to HCSO, Carpenter admitted to concealing methamphetamine on her person and bringing it into the jail.
Carpenter was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into a detention facility.
“The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with our jail staff and deputies to prevent illegal narcotics and other contraband from entering the Holmes County Jail,” the sheriff’s office stated.
