DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A 22-year-old Dothan man is facing 36 felony charges following an investigation into child sexual abuse material, according to the Dothan Police Department.
Police said the investigation began June 4 after the department, working as a member of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
According to police, the tip involved images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material being shared through an account believed to be connected to Dothan.
The Dothan Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit began working to identify the person connected to the data-sharing account.Investigators identified Taylor Andrew Prescott, 22, as the owner of the accounts, according to police.
Prescott was charged with one count of transmitting obscene material to a child, 34 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and one count of production of child sexual abuse material.
Police said Prescott left Dothan before warrants were issued for his arrest.
Prescott was apprehended in Ocala, Florida, on Aug. 18 by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force. According to Dothan police, Prescott was found in possession of a firearm and an undetermined amount of fentanyl.
“Once released from charges in Florida, Prescott will be extradited to Alabama and be booked into the Houston County Jail,” Dothan Police Chief William E. Benny said.
According to information accompanying the police department’s release, Prescott’s bonds total $600,000.
