DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — The City of Dothan has been selected to participate in an international program focused on strengthening local music communities.

Dothan will participate in the Music Policy Resilience Network, a global group of communities working together through research, collaboration, policy development and knowledge sharing.

The network is led by the Centre for Music Ecosystems with support from the Nordic Culture Fund and the Levitt Foundation.

Dothan joins communities from Ecuador, Pakistan, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Kiribati and other areas across the United States.

City officials said the effort goes beyond music. Dothan will explore how a strong local music scene can support economic development, tourism, local businesses, artists, community connections and quality of life.

The announcement comes as Dothan prepares for the Levitt AMP Music Series at Porter Park beginning in September. The series will bring free and diverse live music performances to the community.

Through the network, Dothan will have an opportunity to examine its local music ecosystem and explore ways to make it sustainable while reflecting the community’s identity.
