DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Today marks the final day of the 2026 summer pool season at Dothan’s city pools, but local swimmers won’t have to put away their swimsuits just yet.
According to Dothan Leisure Services, outdoor pool operations wrap up today, Aug. 2, as the city transitions to its fall schedule.
From Aug. 2-9, the Westgate Competition Pool will be closed for routine cleaning. During that week, all aquatic activities will be held at the Doug Tew Recreation Center.
The whirlpool will also be unavailable Aug. 2-9, and open swim will not be offered during the temporary closure.
Lap swim at Doug Tew Recreation Center will be available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., and Friday from 6 to 7 p.m.
Westgate Competition Pool is scheduled to reopen Aug. 10 with its regular winter schedule. Open swim will be offered Fridays from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.

If you’ve been meaning to squeeze in one last summer swim, today is your chance before the outdoor season comes to a close. After that, swimmers can continue enjoying the water through the city’s indoor aquatic programs as fall hours begin.
