COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WDNews) — The inaugural Blake Bowen Memorial Race at Cottonwood Speedway brought together racers, fans and community members for a weekend of competition and remembrance while raising $2,815 to support Wiregrass Angel House.
According to Wiregrass Angel House, the event celebrated the life and legacy of Blake Bowen at the speedway he helped bring back to life in 2020. Organizers said the weekend featured exciting racing, strong community support and hundreds of attendees who gathered to honor Bowen’s memory.
The proceeds from the event will benefit Wiregrass Angel House and the families the organization serves.
“There simply aren’t enough words in the English language to express how grateful we are to the Bowen family,” Wiregrass Angel House said in a social media post. “In the midst of honoring someone they love and miss so deeply, they chose to turn their loss into something that will help others. That speaks volumes about the kind of people they are—kind, generous, compassionate, and always thinking of others.”
Organizers said Bowen’s legacy continues through the speedway he loved and restored, as well as through the lives that will be impacted by the generosity of his family, friends, sponsors, racers, volunteers and everyone who attended the event.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making this inaugural event such an overwhelming success,” the organization said. “We are truly honored to have been a part of celebrating Blake’s life and the lasting impact he continues to have on this community.”
Wiregrass Angel House also thanked everyone who supported the event, saying their generosity helped “turn remembrance into hope.”
