DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Dothan High School has shared its student dress code ahead of the school year, reminding students and families of expectations for clothing, accessories and footwear on campus.
The theme of the guidelines is “Be the Alpha. Represent the Pack.”
According to the dress code, students are expected to wear clothing as it was designed, with pants worn at the natural waist. Pants, shorts and skirts must be at least mid-thigh in length. Leggings are not considered pants and must be worn with appropriate clothing. Jeans, pants and skirts with holes, cuts or slits are allowed only if skin is not visible above mid-thigh. Pajama-style pants are not permitted.
The school also outlines expectations for accessories. According to the guidelines, students are not to wear jewelry or accessories that distract from learning or create a safety hazard. During the school day, hats, bandannas, sunglasses and other headwear that completely covers the head are not allowed unless medically necessary. Heavy metal chains, spiked accessories, blankets and trench coats are also prohibited.
For tops, the dress code states students may not wear clothing that reveals the body in an inappropriate manner. Examples listed include clothing that is too tight, too short, bare-midriff shirts, spaghetti strap tops, off-the-shoulder tops, razor-back tops, low-cut or backless tops, and sheer or see-through clothing. Undergarments should not be visible.
The guidelines also prohibit clothing or personal items that reference alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, drugs, drug-related slogans, or wording, drawings or pictures that could be interpreted as profane, suggestive, obscene or offensive. Clothing or accessories that are disruptive to the learning environment or identify a student as a member of a gang or unlawful organization are also not allowed.
According to the dress code, students are required to wear appropriate shoes at all times. Boots with chains, steel toes or other metal reinforcement are prohibited, along with bedroom shoes, house slippers and shoes with wheels.
The dress code concludes with the school’s message: “Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be the Alpha.”
