DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — According to Dothan High School, families are encouraged to plan vacations, appointments and other trips during scheduled school breaks as part of the school’s effort to improve student attendance during the 2026-2027 school year.
The school recently shared its 2026-2027 Vacation Planner, highlighting extended breaks throughout the academic year when students can miss the fewest instructional days.
According to the planner, the longest opportunities include:
Sept. 4-7: Four-day weekend
Oct. 3-11: Nine-day break
Nov. 21-29: Thanksgiving break, with Veterans Day on Nov. 11 also noted as a one-day opportunity
Dec. 19-Jan. 4: Winter break, offering a 17-day opportunity
Jan. 16-18: Three-day weekend
Feb. 13-15: Three-day weekend
March 20-29: Nine-day spring break
April 9-11: Three-day weekend
The planner reminds families that “every school day gets us closer to our goals” and asks parents to support student attendance by scheduling vacations and appointments during these breaks whenever possible.
