DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A deer crashed through the front glass window near the entrance of Blue Daisies Antique on Reeves Street around 12:42 p.m. Tuesday, causing damage to a local store.
According to initial reports, Dothan police were dispatched to the business after a deer entered through the front window.
Although deer are frequently spotted in rural parts of the Wiregrass, sightings in busy commercial areas like Reeves Street are uncommon.
Owner Mary Kay Floyd told WDNews the deer crashed through the glass, startling everyone inside. An employee quickly reacted by opening another door, allowing the frightened animal to run back outside.
Floyd said the deer caused significant damage to merchandise displayed near the front of the store. She and her employees said they were thankful the deer did not run farther into the business, where even more damage could have occurred.
The deer damaged merchandise and other items inside the antique store, but no customers or employees were injured.
Floyd said the deer appeared to be unharmed as it left the business. Animal control responded and attempted to assess the deer, but it is unknown whether officers were able to locate it.
Despite the damage, Floyd said Blue Daisies Antique remains open for business. Customers are asked to use an alternate entrance while the main entrance is temporarily unavailable.
Floyd also provided photos showing the damage left behind inside the store following the incident.
WDNews also attempted to locate the deer for a statement but was unsuccessful. 🦌😀
