FREEPORT, Fla. (WDNews) — Human remains were discovered during the execution of a search warrant Thursday evening at a property in Freeport, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Freeport, located in Walton County, is about an hour and a half south of the Wiregrass area.
According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Criminal Investigations Bureau received information Thursday regarding the possible location of a homicide victim. After gathering evidence, investigators obtained a search warrant for a property on Sunset Lane.
The sheriff’s office said human remains were located shortly after the search warrant was executed. Officials said all parties involved have been identified and are known to one another, and one individual is currently in custody.
The investigation remains active, and officials said certain details are being intentionally withheld to protect the integrity of the case.
“Releasing specific information prematurely could impede investigators’ ability to locate additional individuals, secure further evidence, and move forward with charges, and could jeopardize potential prosecution,” the sheriff’s office said.
Officials also said there is no indication of a threat to the public.
“We want to assure the public that there is no indication of any threat related to this incident. Initial findings are that it is isolated and domestic in nature,” the sheriff’s office said.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
