DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Shoppers across the Wiregrass may soon see more products priced at $1 or less at their local Dollar General stores.
According to comments made by Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos during the company’s first-quarter earnings call, the retailer is expanding efforts to increase the number of low-cost items available in stores nationwide.
Reports from the earnings call indicate Dollar General is working to maintain at least 2,000 products priced at $1 or less in its stores. The company is also introducing a section called “Value Valley,” featuring approximately 500 rotating seasonal items priced at $1, with an emphasis on health and beauty products.
According to statements made during the call, stores are also expected to dedicate a freezer door to food items priced at $1, giving customers additional low-cost grocery options.
The changes could be welcomed news for shoppers throughout the Wiregrass, where Dollar General stores serve many rural communities and are often one of the closest retail options for residents seeking everyday essentials.
During the earnings call, Vasos said the company continues to focus on affordability and noted that consumers often look for ways to stretch their budgets during periods of higher living costs.
Dollar General has not announced when the expanded $1 pricing strategy will reach individual stores, but the company said the initiative is part of its broader effort to deliver value to customers across its footprint.
