PANSEY, Ala – If you saw thick smoke east of Dothan, a vehicle fire on U.S. Highway 84 East near Bodiford Road caused traffic disruptions Saturday evening after heavy smoke reduced visibility for traveling motorists.
According to initial reports, the fire was reported at approximately 8 p.m. in the Pansy area. When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was fully involved in flames.
Initial reports said the vehicle contained approximately half a tank of gasoline at the time of the fire.
Passersbys stopped to assist the young motorist who was stranded on the side of the highway with the vehicle on fire.
Heavy smoke from the blaze drifted across the highway, forcing multiple eastbound vehicles to stop on the roadway due to limited visibility.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No additional information has been released.
