MONROEVILLE, Ala. — The Monroe County Alabama Animal Shelter is celebrating the completion of major improvements to its kennel area, including a new roof and concrete pad, thanks to the efforts of local volunteers, organizations and community supporters.
In a social media post, shelter officials said, “WOW!!! Look how amazing our kennels look now! No more ripped tops dangling in the wind!”
The shelter thanked the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department for allowing several individuals to help construct the new kennel roof. Special recognition was given to Officer McCants, Officer Burch, Mark Smith, Michael Feaster, Tyler Gregson, Shaun Levy and “several other hardworking men who helped earlier in the project.”
Shelter officials also thanked the City of Monroeville for providing the concrete slab that helped make the project possible.
Additional appreciation was extended to the Monroe County Alabama Humane Society for donating lumber and replacing several broken kennel pieces, as well as citizens of Monroeville who donated used roofing tin.
The shelter also recognized a friend of the shelter who donated dog houses, toys and beds for the animals.
According to the shelter, the new concrete pad will make cleaning easier and reduce future maintenance costs. Officials said the tin roof will provide added protection and durability, noting that previous kennel tops were frequently damaged by strong winds.
“Projects like this are only possible because of the incredible support we receive from our community,” the shelter stated. “We absolutely love the finished result and cannot thank everyone enough for their donations, hard work, and commitment to helping the animals of Monroe County Animal Shelter.”
The shelter concluded by thanking everyone who contributed to the project, saying, “Thank you all for making a difference in the lives of our shelter pets!”
