BLAKELY, Ga. (WDNews) – A message of peace and unity will be the focus on Saturday, April 19, during the ‘Stop the Violence Hands Down Guns Down’ event. It will be held at the Washington High Alumni Building on Howell Street from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to families and community members. It was inspired by Omar Williams, a local resident who brought the idea forward. From there, the effort grew into a full community event.
Blakely Police Chief Brent Alderman said he hopes the gathering helps bring people and law enforcement closer.
“I want the community to meet the Officers, and we are looking forward to building community support,” Alderman said.
The day will include food, children’s activities, and a chance for kids to check out a patrol car up close. Officers will be on-site throughout the event to meet.
