Enterprise, Ala. (WDNews) — Sergeant Michael Darbro of the Enterprise Police Department has been recognized as the 2024 Local Officer of the Year for the Middle District of Alabama, a prestigious honor awarded by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The award was presented Tuesday afternoon by Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davison and Law Enforcement Coordinator Doug Howard. Sgt. Darbro was praised for his pivotal role in securing a conviction against a violent felon in a federal firearms case.
“Over the past year, your ability to clearly explain evidence and connect with jurors during trial testimony was instrumental in securing a conviction against a violent felon in possession of a firearm,” Davison said. “Your knowledge and presence in the courtroom made a real and lasting impact on the safety of your community.”
Enterprise Mayor William E. Cooper applauded Sgt. Darbro’s commitment to justice and highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Enterprise Police Department to keep the city safe.
“We are proud to have Sgt. Darbro represent the City of Enterprise and the Enterprise Police Department,” Cooper said. “His professionalism, integrity, and commitment to justice reflect the values we hold dear as a community. Despite some misinformation in the community, Enterprise is and will continue to be a very safe place to live, work, worship and play.”
Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore also recognized Darbro’s dedication and potential.
“He’s a phenomenal sergeant and investigator, and this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication he brings every day,” Moore said. “We are fortunate to have him serve alongside the outstanding men and women of the Enterprise Police Department.”
The recognition comes during a year of strong performance for the department. According to the 2024 Annual Report, the Enterprise Police Department handled over 43,000 calls for service, made more than 1,100 arrests, and completed over 11,000 hours of officer training. Officers also seized thousands of illegal pills and narcotics and introduced new technology and equipment to enhance public safety.
Among the department’s milestones this year were the completion of the Leighann Cutts Memorial Dispatch Center and continued upgrades to police facilities.
“Despite some misinformation circulating in the community, the Enterprise Police Department continues to exceed standards in public safety, professionalism, and community service,” Mayor Cooper added. “From record-setting emergency response times to impactful criminal investigations, EPD remains a model of modern, community-focused law enforcement.”
