DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) – The spirit of competition and community will shine bright as Dothan hosts the 44th Annual Dothan/Houston County Special Olympics.
Kicking off the day, athletes will take part in a parade of participants, followed by the Olympic torch run carried by local law enforcement officers. The run will start at Rotary Miracle Field and end at the track after a 5.5-mile journey.
After opening ceremonies, athletes will compete in a variety of track and field events, including:
- 50M & 100M Dashes
- 100M Race/Walk
- Softball Throw
- Standing Long Jump
- Wheelchair Races
- Assisted Walks
The games will begin on Wednesday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the Dothan High School Track. The Dothan High School Track is located at 3209 Reeves Street.
The public is invited and encouraged to come out and cheer on the competitors as they showcase courage, determination and sportsmanship.
