(WDNews) — Hurricane Beryl pounded the Cayman Islands Thursday morning and is now on a collision course with the Yucatan Peninsula. The storm’s path is expected to bring significant impacts to eastern Mexico and Texas as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.
Beryl is rapidly moving across the western Caribbean, aiming for Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The storm is forecasted to deliver strong winds, heavy rainfall, and large waves starting Thursday night. It is expected to make landfall early Friday morning before heading into the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane warnings have been issued for areas including Costa Maya, Tulum, Cozumel, and Cancún.
Warnings: In addition to hurricane warnings, there are hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings north of Cancún and south of Costa Maya. Northern Belize, including Belize City, is under a tropical storm watch.
Beryl is projected to continue its west-northwest track in the Caribbean Sea for the remainder of the week. While the hurricane is expected to weaken due to adverse wind conditions, it still poses a significant threat.
