Gun Buy Back/Montgomery Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala (WDNews) – In a concerted effort to enhance community safety, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers, in collaboration with the City of Montgomery and the Montgomery Police Department, successfully hosted their first Gun Buyback event of 2024 on June 29. Held at Bryant Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery, the event received an enthusiastic response, with residents turning in 94 firearms within the first three hours.

The event was so well-received that CrimeStoppers exhausted the $8,000 allocated for firearm purchases. Each surrendered firearm was immediately destroyed on-site, ensuring they would not fall into the wrong hands.

This initiative aims to reduce the number of firearms in circulation, thus preventing potential thefts and misuse in criminal activities. CrimeStoppers emphasized that the event provided a no-questions-asked opportunity for individuals to dispose of unwanted firearms safely.

CrimeStoppers expressed gratitude to their Board of Directors, volunteers, the media, the City of Montgomery, and the Montgomery Police Department for their support. Their combined efforts were crucial in spreading the word and contributing to the event’s success.

This buyback event highlights the community’s commitment to safety and the collaborative efforts of local organizations to make Montgomery a safer place for all residents.
