FOLLY BEACH, S.C. — In a tragic end to what should have been a joyous occasion, Aric Hutchinson will receive nearly $1 million in settlements following the wrongful death of his bride, Samantha Miller. The couple’s wedding night took a horrific turn when a drunk driver allegedly caused a fatal crash.

Samantha Miller, still in her wedding dress, and Aric Hutchinson were leaving their wedding reception on April 28, 2023, when Jamie Lee Komoroski, driving a rented Toyota Camry, crashed into their golf cart. The impact was devastating, sending the golf cart flying 100 yards. Miller died on the scene, while Hutchinson survived with severe injuries, including a brain injury and multiple broken bones.

Komoroski, who was found to have a blood-alcohol concentration more than three times the legal limit, had been seen slurring and staggering at several bars around Folly Beach before the crash. She is currently out on bond and faces charges including felony DUI resulting in death and reckless homicide.

The settlement, amounting to $1.3 million before attorney and legal fees, was approved by Charleston County Circuit Court Judge Roger Young. Hutchinson will receive approximately $863,300 from several businesses and entities including The Drop In Bar & Deli, the Crab Shack, Snapper Jacks, Progressive auto insurance, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of drunk driving, forever altering the lives of those involved.
