Pedestrian Fatality on Highway 231North Near Alabama Welcome Center

Ozark, AL– (WDNews) Tragedy struck late tonight around 11:00 P.m. as a pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle on Highway 231 North near the Alabama Welcome Center.  The incident prompted a quick response from local emergency units.

Dale County Sheriff Deputies, Newton Police, Ozark EMS, and the Newton Volunteer Fire Department rushed to the scene following a dispatch by Ozark – Dale County 911. Upon arrival, authorities confirmed that the pedestrian had died.

Dale County Coroner John Cawley was called to the scene to handle the fatality. Newton Police Chief Frankie Peterman arrived on scene. Newton Police Department will lead the accident investigation.

Currently, both northbound lanes of Highway 231 near the Alabama Welcome Center are still closed as of midnight. The closure is expected to last while the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible. Further details will be released as the investigation continues.
