Calhoun County, FL (WDNews)  A tragic accident early this morning claimed the life of a Marianna man in a three-vehicle collision on State Road 71.

The crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. near Southwest Cane Fortner Road. A 61-year-old Marianna man driving a tractor trailer loaded with logs was heading northbound on State Road 71. The truck failed to negotiate a right curve, overturning and spilling its load of logs into the southbound lane.

A sport utility vehicle driven by a 48-year-old Blountstown man was traveling southbound and collided with the overturned truck. The impact was severe, with logs striking the SUV and pushing it northward. Another southbound tractor trailer, driven by a 57-year-old man from Lakeland, Florida, attempted to avoid the crash but was also hit by the logs.

The aftermath saw the vehicles scattered: the first truck resting in the roadway, the SUV facing east in the road, and the second tractor trailer on the west shoulder. Emergency responders from Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County EMS, Gulf County EMS, Scotts Ferry Fire Department, and Survival Flight 21 attended the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the accident and the name of deceased has not been released.
