Dothan Diamond Classic Raises $37,500 supporting Local Softball Programs

DOTHAN, AL – (WDNews) The fifth annual Dothan Diamond Classic, held at James Oates Park from April 8 to April 13, once again showcased the best of local high school softball. Organized by Dothan Leisure Services, the tournament is a key event for the community, raising money to support local high school softball programs.

This year, thanks to generous support from community sponsors, ticket sales, and concession stands, the event raised an impressive $37,500. These funds will be distributed among the twenty participating teams, based on the number of games each team played in the single-elimination bracket.

Yesterday, Dothan Leisure Services staff and Interim City Manager Randy Morris presented checks to the schools and athletes who took part. Houston Academy Raiders emerged victorious, with Rehobeth, Enterprise, and Wicksburg securing the subsequent top spots. Other teams included Slocomb, Pike Road, GW Long, Geneva, Dothan, Carroll, Ashford, Ariton, Providence, Northside Methodist, Houston County, Headland, Geneva County, Dale County, Cottonwood, and Brantley.

Special player awards were also handed out:

  • DDC Sportsmanship Award: Dothan High School
  • DDC-BSN Sports Defensive Player: Gracie Ward of Slocomb
  • DDC-AlZones Fast Pitch Academy Pitcher: Braya Hodges of Houston Academy
  • HR Derby Champ: Gracie Ward of Slocomb
