Man Charged with Assault After Shooting Incident on North Bell Street

Dothan – (WDNews) Dothan Police Investigators have charged Kenneth Ray Craddock, aged 45 and a resident of Dothan, with Assault 1st Degree following an altercation that led to a shooting incident. The incident occurred at a residence in the 300 block of North Bell Street.

Emergency services were summoned just after 8:00 am on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, after reports of a man sustaining a gunshot wound. Responding officers reached the location swiftly, within two minutes of receiving the call. Upon entering the residence, they discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to the back. Officers promptly administered initial first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived.

As officers secured the scene, Kenneth Craddock, the suspect, returned to the residence from the nearby 200 block of North Bell Street. Craddock confessed to the shooting upon his arrival and was immediately apprehended by law enforcement, according to Lt. Owens with DPD.

Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted a verbal altercation preceding the shooting. After the incident, Craddock left the premises with the firearm, which remains unrecovered. During a subsequent search of the residence under a warrant, investigators discovered two firearms, neither of which was the weapon used in the altercation.

The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. Meanwhile, Kenneth Craddock has been remanded to the Houston County Jail on a $30,000 bond pending further legal proceedings.
