Arrests Made at Sol Fest in Holmes County; Assault on Deputy Highlights Concerns

Holmes County – (WDNews) Over the weekend, law enforcement agencies in Holmes County responded to reports of open drug use and multiple overdoses at Sol Fest, prompting a joint effort from Holmes County, Walton County, Washington County, Bonifay Police Department, and Florida Highway Patrol.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reported one overdose involving a 17-year-old local who admitted to using cocaine, mushrooms, and marijuana. This incident, along with others, led to over a dozen arrests during the event.

In response to the incidents, a comprehensive foot patrol operation was launched to address illegal drug activities within the venue. However, on the final night of the festival, an alarming incident occurred when a festival-goer, under the influence of multiple substances, assaulted a deputy by biting a chunk out of the deputy’s head.

Local residents expressed concerns about noise, drug use, and unruly behavior associated with the festival, despite Vortex Springs owner Angela Dockery noting its positive impact on the community, attracting up to 10,000 attendees. Authorities remain vigilant in addressing safety concerns at future events.
