Tragic Two-Vehicle Accident Claims Life of Motorcyclist on State Road 71

Marianna – (WDnews) On the evening of April 27, 2024, tragedy struck on State Road 71 as a two-vehicle collision unfolded, resulting in the loss of a motorcyclist’s life.

At approximately 9:33 p.m., authorities responded to reports of a collision involving a black Suzuki motorcycle and a gray Ford SUV on State Road 71, just south of Jasmine Drive.

The incident occurred when the motorcycle, driven by a 40-year-old male from Malone, FL, collided with a deer on the roadway, propelling both the rider and the animal into the northbound lane.

Tragically, the oncoming SUV, driven by a 23-year-old male from Gordon, AL, was unable to avoid the collision, resulting in a devastating impact that claimed the life of the motorcyclist. Pieces of the motorcycle caught fire upon impact.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, with two passengers from the SUV sustaining minor injuries and being transported to Jackson ER for treatment.

The driver of the SUV, accompanied by passengers ranging from 18 years to one year old, brought the vehicle to a controlled stop further along the road, shaken but no life-threatening injuries reported.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident as the community mourns the loss of the motorcyclist and sends wishes of recovery to those injured in the collision.
