DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A Dothan man wanted in Houston County on first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy charges was shot during an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning in Chilton County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
ALEA identified the man as 34-year-old Shaquiah Reese of Dothan.
According to ALEA, the incident happened around 2:20 a.m. Oct. 4 after deputies with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Clanton Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 65 southbound near the 208 mile marker.
ALEA said Reese was wanted out of Houston County for first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.
During the traffic stop, investigators said Reese brandished a firearm, causing Chilton County deputies and a Clanton police officer to fire their weapons.
Reese was struck by gunfire and taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment. His condition was not released.
No deputies or officers were injured.
At the request of the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, special agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting.
ALEA said no additional information is available at this time. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Chilton County District Attorney’s Office.
