HudsonAlpha to Host Free Genomics 101 Event in Dothan

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology will host a free community education event in Dothan aimed at helping people better understand DNA, genomics and how the science affects everyday life.

“HudsonAlpha U: Genomics 101” will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 5:30 p.m. at the Wiregrass Innovation Center, located at 122 Museum Ave.

According to HudsonAlpha Wiregrass, the event will introduce participants to the fundamentals of genomics and explore how DNA and genomic science are used in research, health, agriculture and other areas of modern life.

“Genomics is helping us better understand who we are, how our bodies work and the world around us,” said Kelly East, vice president for educational outreach. “HudsonAlpha U: Genomics 101 is designed to make this fascinating field accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or previous knowledge of genetics.”

The event is free and open to the public. No previous knowledge of genetics or genomics is required.

Registration is encouraged for those planning to attend.

HudsonAlpha Wiregrass is part of the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, a nonprofit organization focused on biotechnology research, education and economic development. Through educational programs and community outreach, HudsonAlpha Wiregrass works to connect people across the Wiregrass with developments and opportunities in biotechnology.
