HENRY COUNTY, Ala. (WDNews) — The Southeast Alabama Community Action Partnership, known as SEACAP, will hold a mass sign-up Sept. 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Abbeville Boys & Girls Club, 113 Gilliam St. in Abbeville, for people seeking help with utility bills and other emergency needs.

SEACAP is a nonprofit agency that provides utility assistance, emergency services and other support to eligible residents.

Applicants must bring complete documentation to the sign-up. SEACAP said anyone who does not provide all required documents cannot receive assistance.

Each applicant must provide the following:

A picture ID for the person completing the application.

Social Security cards for every person living in the household.

Proof of household income for every person age 18 or older.

A current utility bill.

Custody papers for children living in the household who are not the children of the head of household, unless the children’s parent also lives in the home.

A copy of the lease if the applicant lives in public housing.

Accepted proof of income may include a Social Security benefit letter, retirement letter, all paycheck stubs from the previous month or proof of child support payments. A bank statement will not be accepted as proof of income.

The utility bill must be in the name of the head of household, the applicant’s spouse or the landlord.

If the utility bill is in the landlord’s name, the applicant must bring a copy of the lease showing that the client is responsible for paying the bill.

In most cases, the client must complete the application. Another person may complete it only when the client is at least 60 years old or has a disability. That person must also bring a signed permission slip from the client.

Applicants are encouraged to review the requirements carefully and collect every document before attending the sign-up. Missing information could prevent SEACAP from processing the application.
