DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Troy University’s Dothan Campus will host a free symposium this month focusing on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and data analytics.
According to Troy University, the second annual Congressman Terry and Barbara Everett Symposium on Emerging Technologies will be held Friday, Sept. 18, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Dothan Campus, 500 University Drive. Lunch will be provided.
The event will bring together representatives from business, industry, government, law enforcement and higher education to discuss developments in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, along with the ethical, legal and security issues surrounding the technology.
“AI agents now plan, reason, and take multi-step actions across enterprise systems, and governments are applying AI deeper into core operating functions. At the same time, binding regulation has arrived — the EU AI Act reaches its principal application date this year, U.S. states have enacted a fast-growing patchwork of AI laws, and federal preemption efforts are being contested in the courts,” said Dr. Edward Fulford, director of the Center for Applied Innovation and Cybersecurity at Troy University.
“This symposium explores how organizations can responsibly deploy AI systems while maintaining transparency, accountability, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and public trust,” Fulford said.
Speakers include Eddie Sorrells, CEO of Dothan-based DSI Security; Dr. Jay Claiborne, professor of practice in information systems at Troy University; Anna Grace Du Noyer, global chief AI, ethics and impact officer at Electus Global Education; Klint Walker, cybersecurity advisor with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency; Fulford; and Alabama Chief AI Officer Aaron Wright.
The symposium will conclude with a panel discussion on responsibly developing and using artificial intelligence.
The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required because of limited seating and catering. Troy University said only a limited number of seats remain.
