DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Middle and high school students across the Wiregrass will have a chance to get a hands-on look at biotechnology, agriculture, genomics and other growing fields this fall.
HudsonAlpha Wiregrass has opened registration for fall field trips at the Wiregrass Innovation Center on the Carver Research Campus in Dothan.
The field trips are designed to take students outside the traditional classroom and show them how science and technology are being used in the real world. Students will participate in hands-on experiences and interactive learning while exploring biotechnology, agriculture, genomics and innovation.
“Field trips to the Wiregrass Innovation Center give students the opportunity to see science and innovation happening right here in their community,” said Tiffany Roy, student experience specialist. “We want students to leave inspired, curious and able to envision themselves as the scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs and innovators of the future.”
The program is designed specifically for middle and high school students and can complement classroom lessons in STEM, agriculture, biotechnology and related subjects.
Students will also learn about career opportunities in science and technology and how those industries are growing in the Wiregrass.
HudsonAlpha Wiregrass said hands-on student experiences are part of its continuing effort to expand STEM education and workforce development opportunities throughout the region.
