DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — Dangerous heat and humidity will continue across the Wiregrass Sunday, with heat index values reaching as high as 110 degrees.
The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has a Heat Advisory in effect for Coffee, Dale, Henry, Geneva and Houston counties until 7 p.m. Sunday. The advisory also covers portions of the Florida Panhandle and southwest Georgia.
Forecasters say the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for people spending extended periods outdoors.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas when possible and limit time in direct sunlight. Those who must work or spend time outside should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
Strenuous outdoor activities should be moved to the early morning or evening when possible.
Anyone showing signs of heat-related illness should be moved to a cooler location. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and requires immediate medical attention.
The dangerous heat is not expected to end Sunday. Another Heat Advisory has already been issued for the Wiregrass from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, when heat index values could climb as high as 111 degrees.
Residents should continue monitoring the latest forecast and take precautions during the hottest part of the day.
