MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey declined to grant clemency Thursday evening for Jeremy Williams, allowing his death sentence to be carried out for the 2021 capital murder of 5-year-old Kamarie Holland.
Williams was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m. CDT, according to an update from the governor’s office.
Earlier in the evening, Ivey informed Alabama Department of Corrections Commissioner Greg Lovelace that she would not exercise her clemency powers and directed the state to proceed with Williams’ lawfully imposed death sentence.
According to the governor’s office, Williams paid Kamarie’s mother $2,500 on Dec. 13, 2021, to sexually abuse the child for one hour. The governor’s office said Williams exposed Kamarie to methamphetamine, sexually assaulted and raped her before strangling her to death. Her body was left beneath a tarp.
The governor’s office said Williams recorded the abuse on his cellphone.
Following the execution, Ivey issued a statement about the case.
“There are few words to adequately describe the depth and depravity of Jeremy Williams’ evil act. The unspeakable nature of this crime is exactly why we have the death penalty statute in the state of Alabama. Kamarie Holland is an innocent girl who is no longer with us, but she finally received justice tonight. May God bless little Kamarie Holland.”
Williams was executed for the capital murder of Kamarie, who was 5 years old at the time of her death.
